Home and Away fans are buzzing as Matt Evans finally steps forward to reveal what life looks like after his shock exit from Summer Bay— and it turns out the actor is already heading into one of the most transformative chapters of his career.

After quietly wrapping up his time on the long-running series earlier this year, the 29-year-old actor has now opened up about where he’s heading next, and his post–Home and Away journey is sounding every bit as dramatic as the storylines he left behind. Speaking candidly in a new interview, Matt confirmed that he’s diving headfirst into the competitive audition world, embracing the rare downtime that comes after four straight years of intense filming. For the first time in a long time, he says, he finally has room to breathe.

According to Matt, leaving the tight filming schedule of Home and Away brought a sense of clarity he’d been missing.
“After years of living under that constant pressure, it feels good to slow down and take stock,” he explained. “I’m putting myself out there for all kinds of roles. I’m trusting the process. When the right one comes, it’ll come.”

But career shifts aren’t the only big changes in Matt’s life. In a turn that mirrors the romantic twists of Summer Bay, he revealed that he found love just before stepping away from the show. His new partner, Sophia Pennington — whom he met through the production — has become a major source of happiness. With Sophia still filming in Summer Bay, Matt says he’s enjoying being able to support her while carving out his own new path.

“It’s been really special,” he shared. “We’re starting fresh together.”

Though fans first met Matt through The Voice, he admits that music has temporarily taken the back seat as he focuses more heavily on acting. But he insists he hasn’t abandoned that part of himself. Instead, he hopes to eventually merge both passions in a way that feels meaningful. Whether it’s a musical film, a biographical role, or even a theatrical debut, Matt says he’s keeping the door open.

“Doing a musical movie or a Disney-style project would be incredible,” he said. “Mixing music and acting — that’s the dream.”

While Matt is keeping tight-lipped about any specific projects, he hints that something is definitely in motion.
“There’s a shift happening,” he teased. “When everything lines up, I’ll be ready to talk. For now… I’m just doing the work.”

With his schedule finally easing, Matt is also thrilled to be heading home to Perth for Christmas — a rare luxury after years of filming through the holiday season. He’s looking forward to reconnecting with family, festive chaos, and his mother’s famously enthusiastic gift-giving.

Beyond personal and professional plans, Matt has also turned his attention toward meaningful charitable work. Recently, he supported the Light the World Giving Machines, a program that lets the public donate essentials through vending machine–style stations. One small donation in particular struck him deeply: a teddy bear.

“Every kid needs that one toy,” he said. “If you can give that to someone who doesn’t have much… it matters.”
