Young & Restless Missing Persons Report: As Four Storylines Crash and Burn, One Pivotal Character Has Been Senselessly Sidelined
We get that soaps are cyclic. Characters come and go from the frontburner. It’s like the circle of life… or something. But every so often,
someone is MIA at a time when they should be an MVP. Case in point: The Young and the Restless’ Summer Newman.

If ever there was a moment that Hunter King and Allison Lanier’s Genoa City counterpart should be on the canvas, this is it. On one hand, you’ve got her half brother Noah in a coma and Invisible Man drag in L.A. On the other, you’ve got her brother Daniel inviting his heart to be broken by giving it to Tessa.

But wait, there’s more. On top of all that, Summer’s ex-husband Kyle is on thin ice with girlfriend Claire, and mom Phyllis is… Sheesh. She seems to think that she can just steal Cane’s AI and not get caught or prosecuted for it. Has she forgotten how little she liked being hauled in by the GCPD for extortion?
Mind you, were Summer to be brought back right now, it wouldn’t be merely to chime in on other characters’ storylines. She’d come with a heaping helping of drama herself, as you’ll recall she was said to be dating the new exec she hired at Marchetti. (Imagine General Hospital alums Tajh Bellow or Evan Hofer, or Bold & Beautiful‘s Poor Dead Vinny Joe LiCicero in the part.)
This guy could take one look at the chaos swirling around Summer’s family and say, “Hey, babe, let’s book the next flight back.” And therein would lie the conflict for Summer. Could she abandon her loved ones and the messes they are in to jet overseas again with her boo and live a less tumultuous life? Or would she entice her honey to stick with her, only to come to regret it when he starts a torrid affair with Lily (who, please, please, please, is too smart to ever fall for Cane’s BS again).
