Young and Restless Star Joshua Morrow Announces Latest Project: ‘Tryin Something New’
Before he became a soap star known for portraying Young and Restless’s Nick Newman, Joshua Morrow was a talented teen athlete who
played football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track and tennis. Now, the actor is returning to his first love as the co-host of a new YouTube series about college football!
A new program from InsideTexas.com, a website devoted to the University of Texas Longhorns football program, Hate Watch pairs Morrow with his friend Lucas Calhoun (also known as LC), one of the hosts for Inside Texas’s YouTube channel. Each week, the two will weigh in on the performances of their favorite college football teams: Morrow is a diehard fan of the Oklahoma University Sooners, while Calhoun cheers for their rival, the UT Longhorns.
Breaking his year-long absence from X (formerly Twitter), Morrow plugged his new YouTube show on the social media platform, sharing a video from the Sept. 8 episode and urging his Y&R followers to check it out. “Any football fans? I’m tryin something new. My dream has always been sports. Working with my bro Lucas and talkin the Red River Rivalry every week. Give a follow and listen if [you] dig football!”
The Red River Rivalry draws its name from the river that borders the two states. With both teams now part of the Southeastern Conference, even more attention is on the competition between the rivals… giving Morrow and Calhoun the perfect opening for their weekly commentary. “We did it. We bridged the divide,” Calhoun joked on X as he plugged their inaugural episode on Aug. 28.
While acting became Morrow’s passion in his late teens, sports were his first love. Raised in Oklahoma, he was an All-American athlete in high school. “Growing up, I was an amazing jock,” he told Soap Opera Digest back in 1994, the year he made his Y&R debut. “I played sports constantly,” he recalled. “My dad always said, ‘If you have time to watch TV, then you have time to go out and practice free throws.’ ”
Morrow’s career path shifted when he decided to move from his dad’s home in Oklahoma to California, where his mother lived, for his senior year. “I thought, ‘This is where I need to be if I’m going to act.’ I love Oklahoma, but how realistic is it to be an actor there?”
Now, with Hate Watch, Morrow is getting to combine his two passions. Watch the first episode below (three have been posted on YouTube so far), then let us know in the comments what you think of the actor’s new project!
