One of the stars of Yellowstone and one of its upcoming spin-offs also features in an ‘overlooked’ crime thriller that fans are rating 10/10.

Into The Ashes tells the story of Nick (played by Grimes), a blue-collar ex-con living in a small town in the Alabama countryside. He attempts to leave his violent past behind and settle down with his new wife, but when Sloan (Grillo), a dark figure from his past, arrives seeking revenge, Nick’s world is thrown into chaos.

 

 

Nick is forced to fight back, tracking down Sloan and his gang while dealing with his father-in-law, local sheriff Frank, who grapples with his own moral dilemmas.

Despite only receiving a limited cinematic release in the United States, the film is finding a new audience on streaming platforms, reports the Mirror.

 

 

Currently, UK viewers can catch the film on Prime Video with an Amazon subscription. It’s also available for free viewing on Plex, a streaming platform offering complimentary ad-supported films, shows, and live TV.

Upon its release, the film didn’t fare well with critics, garnering a mere 30% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, some reviews were positive, with one praising it as “a stylish and violent modern-day Western noir, while not all the pieces of the puzzle perfectly fit into place, it’s still a good yarn filled with arresting visuals and solid performances.”

Over time, both fans and critics have come to view the film as one of the most underrated crime thrillers. Movie review site Slashfilm hailed it as “one of the most overlooked films in the careers of lead stars Luke Grimes and Frank Grillo”.

They further recommended checking it out before Grimes appears in the next Yellowstone spin-off and Grillo features in Superman and Peacemaker season two.

One cinema enthusiast who watched the film commented: “Another mind-bogglingly low score for what is clearly a very good movie. Very well acted, great direction, not overwritten, nor underwritten, wonderful use of musical score and silence. Really don’t understand the poor reviews.”

Another viewer gave it a “10/10”, stating: “An amazing movie that excites! The acting was great as well as the cinematics and the score is amazing. It has good vibes and I can’t say much else other than watch it. I was very excited to watch it and it did not disappoint!”
