Since then, he’s been developing his ambitious big-screen saga, Horizon, though the third and fourth outings have been pushed back after underwhelming ticket sales.

Beyond his on-screen appearances, Costner has executive produced the forthcoming period drama The Gray House for Prime Video, teaming up with legendary actor Morgan Freeman.

The compelling series draws from the real-life account of a group of female operatives who penetrated Confederate lines during the American Civil War and altered the nation’s destiny, reports the Express.

Headlined by The West Wing’s Mary-Louise Parker, the show chronicles multiple women, including a Virginia socialite and her mother, alongside a formerly enslaved woman and a notorious courtesan.

According to Deadline, the synopsis states: “They operate deep inside the corridors of Confederate power and transform an underground railroad into an effective underground spy network, risking life and liberty.”

The impressive ensemble also features Amethyst Davis, Daisy Head, Ben Vereen, Paul Anderson, Robert Knepper, Keith David, Marc Jenner, Colin Morgan, Hannah James, and Ben Cura.

Costner posted to Instagram recently to tease the series with a one-minute exclusive trailer, offering viewers their first glimpses of the highly anticipated period drama. “Proud to have helped produce this powerful story,” he wrote in the caption, before announcing the release date of Thursday, February 26th. All eight episodes will be available at once.

Clips have also been unveiled showcasing The Gray House’s genuine 19th Century backdrop, packed with mystery, upheaval, racial strife, despair, and sweeping Civil War clashes.
