‘Yellowstone’ Sequel ‘The Madison’ Casts Screen Legend Kurt Russell

Move over Kevin Costner, there’s a new Hollywood icon joining Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe that will make everyone forget

about the disgruntled actor who exited the franchise halfway through Season 5. Premiering back in 2018, Costner was a major fixture on

Yellowstone right up until the final season, which saw scheduling conflicts with Horizon, contract disputes, and creative differences cause him to depart early.

Yellowstone Spinoff The Madison Casts Suits Star Patrick J. Adams & More Alongside Michelle Pfeiffer

Per Variety, screen legend Kurt Russell has officially joined the cast of the Yellowstone spinoff titled The Madison, which is described as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.” Character details are still under wraps, but it’s said that Russell will play the husband of previously announced star, Michelle Pfeiffer.

Russell brings with him a wealth of experience in front of the camera, but surprisingly enough, The Madison will be just his second major TV role since the 70s. The 74-year-old was a series regular on the short-lived 1976 Western The Quest, and while he won an Emmy for his portrayal of Elvis in the 1979 made-for-TV movie of the same name, he wouldn’t appear regularly again on television until his starring role in Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. In the interim, Russell carved out a successful film career for himself, starring in the likes of Escape from New York, The Thing, and other Westerns such as Tombstone, Bone Tomahawk, and The Hateful Eight.

In addition to Russell and Pfeiffer, The Madison features a slew of other accomplished names, including Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Elle Chapman, Matthew Fox (LOST, Party of Five), Beau Garrett (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Tron: Legacy), Amiah Miller (War of the Planet of the Apes), Alaina Pollack, Ben Schnetzer (Pride, Y: The Last Man), Rebecca Spence (Contagion, Candyman), Danielle Vasinova and Kevin Zegers (Gossip Girl, Fear the Walking Dead). The series also sees director Christina Alexandra Voros at the helm, who previously worked with Sheridan on Lawman: Bass Reeves.

Filming on The Madison got underway in 2024, starting in September and lasting all the way through until December. An exact premiere date for when the series will make its Paramount+ debut has yet to be set, but it could come as early as later this year, or in the beginning months of 2026. Deadline reported last month that the studio has complete faith that the show will be a hit, adding that it’s poised to be renewed for a Season 2 before the first season sees the light of day.

In addition to The Madison, another Yellowstone spinoff focusing on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler is also in production, and recently cast Academy Award nominees Annette Bening and Ed Harris. We’ll have more news on that one, as well as The Madison, as it becomes available. In the meantime, if you want to relive all the drama and intrigue of the flagship series, all five seasons of Yellowstone are streaming now on Peacock.
