Just like Yellowstone, many of the scenes in 1923 are shot in the mountain west. According to 1923’s IMDb page, the series is primarily filmed in Montana. In fact, out of the 20 locations that are listed, 10 of them are based in the state, including Butte, Montana.

 

Season 2, however, took a turn down South to another cowboy-friendly locale: Texas! The City of San Antonio revealed that much of the upcoming season was filmed throughout the Lone Star State. While Austin, Texas, served as a base for the majority of the second season’s filming, production moved back up to Butte, Montana in October 2024. So, as you tune into the latest installment of 1923, keep an eye out for familiar settings from season 1, like the ranch and the Butte Civic Center!
