The Rinse Y&R : Victor’s Gift to Michael Comes With Strings Attached
In the December 30 episode of The Young and the Restless, Victor gives Michael a kind and thoughtful gift. But of course, there’s something behind it. Do you think The Mustache has really learned the reason for the season?
Victor (Eric Braeden) ran into Jack (Peter Bergman) and Billy (Jason Thompson), where niceties were not exchanged. Victor joked about singing “Auld Lang Syne” come New Year’s Eve.
Jack warned Victor about dropping the ball at midnight. That ball could drop on his head. Victor wanted to know who made the decision to shut down Jabot and why. Their company is losing money.
Victor wanted to know how many millions they had lost already. Jack claimed they were still standing. They will ultimately have the upper hand. Jack told Victor that he’s about to lose the fight he started.
Following their conversation, Victor called Michael (Christian Le Blanc) and told him that he needed to see him. Michael showed up at Society and wondered what Victor wanted. Victor told him about Jabot shutting down.
Michael reminded Victor that the Jabot shutdown shouldn’t be a surprise. Jabot means something to Jack, as Newman Enterprises means to Victor. But Victor couldn’t see the comparisons.
Victor could notice Michael’s chilly demeanor. He wondered if Michael followed through on the plans they had made recently. Has he changed his mind?
Michael told Victor he’s not sure where they stand. He feels like his loyalty is being put to the test lately. Victor removed a Christmas gift from his pocket and handed it to Michael.
Was Victor reminded of the spirit of Christmas? Michael opened the gift and found that it was a coin of the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius. Victor assured him that it was authentic.
Then, he recalled that he was touched by the day that Ian Ward (Ray Wise) held him at gunpoint. Michael could’ve left him there, but he stayed there. He already proved his loyalty to him.
Can Michael Trust Victor?
There was an ulterior motive behind this gift. Victor wasn’t in the spirit of giving. He wanted to know whether Michael understood that Victor demanded his complete loyalty.
But he would have to prove it by accepting his gift. Was Michael able to trust him? Of course not. There’s always something behind it. Victor offered this gift so he could continue keeping Michael on a short leash, so he could do his bidding.
Michael accepted Victor’s gift. He apologized for making him feel as if there were any doubt. With Victor, there are always strings attached. Michael needs to come to this realization.
