The Fate of Taylor Sheridan’s New Neo-Western Series Seems to Have Been Decided Early Thanks to Godzilla
The Madison is the latest addition to Taylor Sheridan’s ever-expanding universe of TV shows at Paramount+, and once again the prolific
creator has enticed the usual mix of huge stars to lead his family drama with those usual western overtones. The impressive cast list
includes Michelle Pfeiffer, who leads the show as Stacy Clyburn, with Kurt Russell as her husband, Preston. However, filming on the Godzilla series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 almost caused a kaiju-sized problem for the series.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Russell revealed that he almost had to bail on starring in The Madison entirely because of his commitment to Apple TV’s MonsterVerse series. However, Sheridan and Pfeiffer came up with a way to get around it.
What makes this unprecedented is that, officially, The Madison does not premiere until Mar. 14 on Paramount+ and has not yet been green lit for a second season. However, this is the second time it has been mentioned that Season 2 has already filmed, with star Elle Chapman previously revealing the news last month. MovieWeb requested a comment on this from Paramount+ representatives, but have not received an immediate response.
While there are many times a scheduling conflict like this has resulted in a change of actor, it seems that Sheridan really wanted Russell in his show. This is something the actor is happy about. He continued to praise Sheridan as an “excellent” writer, as well as tipping Pfeiffer for awards glory, as he hyped up the series.
For Russell though, it doesn’t matter the quality of the cast – which includes Beau Garrett, Matthew Fox, Patrick J. Adams, and Will Arnett – as it is Sheridan’s writing that really creates the show.
