Taylor Sheridan’s Failed Tom Clancy Adaptation Redeems Itself on Streaming
Taylor Sheridan has delivered enough hits like Yellowstone and Hell or High Water to be considered the king of the modern Western, but
he’s also written a few action movies, some of which were met with better reception than others. One of Sheridan’s action vehicles that fans
weren’t hot on was Without Remorse, the 2021 Tom Clancy adaptation starring Michael B. Jordan (Sinners). The one-person-army

conspiracy thriller follows an elite Navy SEAL on a mission to avenge his wife’s death. In America, Without Remorse is streaming on Prime Video, but globally, the film has surged into the VOD top 10 in several countries, including Denmark, Finland, and more.
Without Remorse is inspired by the Tom Clancy novel of the same name, but fans of the book criticized the film for being an unfaithful adaptation of the source material. Critics also weren’t hot on the Michael B. Jordan-led actioner, which led to it earning Rotten scores of 41% from critics and 44% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Without Remorse was one of Amazon’s first original movies, and the film did not receive a theatrical release, a model that is becoming more and more common. Prime Video also removed the film from streaming earlier this year, only to add it back to its library weeks later.
Taylor Sheridan wrote the script for Without Remorse along with Will Staples, and Stefano Sollima directed the film. Sollima worked with Sheridan in 2018 on Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the sequel to his 2015 action smash hit starring Josh Brolin and Emily Blunt. Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) and Jodie Turner-Smith (The Agency) also have roles in Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse.
Taylor Sheridan’s newest series is Landman Season 2, which stars returning veteran Billy Bob Thornton along with newcomer Sam Elliott. Landman began streaming on Paramount+ last month, as all Sheridan-written projects do, but the film is now dominating another streaming service. Landman is one of the most popular shows on Prime Video right now, as fans continue to flock to the first season of Sheridan’s hit oil drama. Paramount has also announced that Landman has been officially renewed for Season 3, which comes in the wake of Sheridan’s departure from the company. He will join NBCUniversal in the next few years.
