Sylvester Stallone’s Crime Drama Is Still Missing Taylor Sheridan’s Secret Weapon

Taylor Sheridan’s Southern crime series, Tulsa King, lacks a key element of the Yellowstone co-creator’s other series, missing one of his

most utilized actors. The show wrapped its third season in November, with New York mafia capo-turned-Tulsa crime king, Dwight Manfredi

(Sylvester Stallone), defeating another rival. However, some fans thought the closing episode lacked the emotional depth of past installments.

Taylor Sheridan Might Have Set Screenwriting Record With 'Tulsa King'

Tulsa King Season 3 was under new leadership, with Dave Erickson at the helm as its showrunner, replacing Terrance Winter, who will be back as head writer and executive producer for Tulsa King Season 4 after Paramount+ renewed Stallone’s drama for another season. Winter can return the series to its former glory, as could a few more familiar faces.

Tulsa King has fewer overlapping actors from other Taylor Sheridan shows, and its cast lacks a recurring fan favorite, James Jordan. The actor has appeared in several of Sheridan’s projects, including his films Wind River (2017), in which he played Pete Mickens, and Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021) alongside Angela Jolie and fellow Yellowstone actor Finn Little.

Though Tulsa King’s characters feature a ragtag ensemble of unique personalities like Bodhi (Martin Starr), Tyson (Jay Will), Mitch (Garrett Hedlund), and Grace (McKenna Quigley Harrington), it’s missing someone like Jordan’s typical characters. His likable, reliable right-hand man-type also serves as a comedic foil. Jordan, a Texas native, would blend perfectly with the rest of Dwight’s Western crew.

Jordan doesn’t just feature in Yellowstone and Sheridan’s movies. The actor also features throughout all the executive producer’s best Paramount+ shows. Before his Yellowstone stint, the actor appeared in the crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown alongside Jeremy Renner. He plays a prison warden named Ed, who dies in Season 1, but Jordan later appears in several other shows.

After his Yellowstone gigs, Jordan appeared in Lioness in a much more prominent role. He plays a character called Two Cups in Lioness, a member of the CIA’s Lioness program, involved in high-stakes counterterrorism missions. Two Cups appears in nearly every episode of Lioness, giving Jordan significantly more screen time than in Yellowstone while redeeming his unhinged characters.

The actor’s most recent role in Sheridan’s TV universe is arguably one of his best. Jordan plays Dale Bradley in Landman, the Yellowstone co-creator’s oil drama starring Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris. Dale is an M-Tex engineer and one of Tommy’s roommates, and his interactions with Angela (Ali Larter) are a key aspect of the show’s comedy.
