Coronation Street’s Sally and Tim Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine) are currently acting as foster parents for Shanice Michaelis (Molly Kilduff), whose parents are serving time in prison. The couple also keep an eye on Shanice’s older brother Brody (Ryan Mulvey) in a more unofficial capacity. There’s another sister, Joanie (Savanna Pennington), who is currently in care as she and Shanice weren’t getting on.

The father of the kids, Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton), is in prison after the killing of PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith). Following his imprisonment, Mick escaped from jail and headed back to Weatherfield to try to gather his family together and flee the country, an attempt that failed.

Mick’s wife Lou (Farrel Hegarty) was later imprisoned after she attacked Gary Windass (Mikey North). She’d been blackmailing Gary and when he threatened to report her to the police she swung at him with a metal pole, leaving him in a coma. As Gary lay in hospital, a guilty Lou kept vigil by his bedside, pretending to the hospital staff that she was his wife.

When the truth came out about what happened, Lou was arrested. She pleaded guilty and faces a long prison sentence herself.

Meanwhile Sally and Tim have done their best to provide some sort of stability for the Michaelis children. Prior to their parents being jailed, the girls witnessed their dad being violent towards their mum and their turbulent life so far has meant that Sally and Tim have had to work hard to gain their trust.

In the end social services decided to split the girls up temporarily after Joanie showed violent behaviour towards her sister, despite Brody’s attempts to explain away their behaviour because he desperately wanted to keep his sisters together.

In upcoming episodes, Sally gets some news from the prison. Lou is due to appear in court because she’s been fighting.

…just as Joanie, Shanice and their social worker come home
Rather than hear this from Sally, Brody hears about it first from Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who asks him why he isn’t in court supporting his mum.
Brody is furious with Sally and Tim and accuses them of trying to stop him supporting Lou at court. He rages that they’re useless foster parents – and just at that moment a social worker walks in with his sister Joanie and overhears his rant.

Has Brody just ruined the chance of being reunited with his sister? Or will Joanie be allowed to stay with Sally and Tim?
