SOAP SHOCK Coronation Street star’s final scenes air as she quits after three years on the soap
A CORONATION Street star’s final scenes have aired after she quit the show after three years.
The star bowed out of the ITV soap after making the difficult decision to leave the show despite becoming a firm fan favourite and winning critical acclaim.
Actress Channique Sterling-Brown burst onto screens three years ago as Dee-Dee Bailey, the daughter of Aggie and Ed Bailey as she arrived in Weatherfield to reunite with her family.
In the three years since she’s become the face of some of the show’s biggest storylines including taking centre stage as her fiancee Joel kept his horrifying dark secret as a groomer and abuser of women.
But now she has suddenly decided to quit the cobbles for the chance at a new life in Singapore with a fancy new job.
In today’s episode Dee-Dee aired a farewell dinner with her friends and family – though her brother James refused to attend over her taking Laila away from him.
She was driven away and sadly didn’t even get the last moments of the episodem with her exit coming shortly before.
Channique’s decision to quit the show left fans shocked.
A source confirmed the news to The Sun earlier this year, adding: “It was Channique’s decision to go and she told bosses some time ago.
“She’s hugely talented and ambitious and the world will be her oyster.”
The actress has been one of the soap’s biggest stars in the last few years, taking centre stage as her character became involved in villain Joel Deering’s exploits.
Dee-Dee fought to expose evil Joel over his grooming and abuse of young women, shortly before his death.
She went on to give birth to his baby in traumatic circumstances, after deciding against having an abortion, only to be victim of medical negligence due to racism.
Dee-Dee was forced to undergo a hysterectomy and later gave up her child Laila to her brother James to raise.
However months later she changed her mind and now the siblings co-parent the baby.
