Shona comes face to face with her dad in Coronation Street and is stunned by his situation
Family reunions aren’t always pleasant as Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) is about to learn in Coronation Street, when a reunion with her estranged father leads to a shocking revelation…

You’d think one unwanted family member crawling out of the woodwork was enough. Shona’s still adjusting to repairing her fractured relationship with her sister Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown), who made her debut in style during Corriedale, escaping from the back of Emmerdale villain Graham Foster’s (Andrew Scarborough) van. It’s certainly one way to make an entrance.
After the birth of their premature baby Harper, the Platts need all the help they can get. So when her husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) invited Jodie to stay under their roof for as long as she likes, Shona took the opportunity to bond with her sister.
However, if viewers are expecting these two long-lost sisters to hug and braid each others’ hair, they’re in for a big disappointment. Jodie is here to get revenge on Shona. In the words of the almighty Taylor Swift, now we got bad blood… and it all goes back to their childhood.
In a heated heart-to-heart between the sisters, Coronation Street have previously given us a glimpse into their backstory, defined by abandonment and abuse.
Shona left their toxic, controlling father and enabling mother when she was young, leaving Jodie behind. She had idolised her big sister from a young age, hence her decision to get a matching tattoo.
Shona’s departure from the family home was viewed as abandonment by Jodie, who bitterly resents her sister for walking away to a better life and leaving her behind.
Struggling with life as a teen mum, Shona had no idea about the full extent of abuse her little sister was suffering, locked in her bedroom by their cruel father.
Now Corrie fans are about to meet the man himself in upcoming episodes when Shona decides to visit their dad against Jodie’s wishes. Cagey, Jodie is clearly opposed to the idea and acts very suspiciously, calling up an old friend of their dad’s called Bernard and asking for a favour. Curiouser and curiouser…
Convinced Jodie is hiding something, Shona follows her to a psychiatric hospital … where it’s a punch to the gut to discover that her father is a patient.
Tearful Jodie introduces their confused, estranged dad, explaining how she was left to care for him after their mother fled. Moved beyond words, Shona assures Jodie she’s part of the family now…
Jodie’s vendetta towards Shona is alive and well. Actress Olivia Frances Brown, who portrays Jodie, reveals the true extent of her character’s feelings towards her sister.
‘Total resentment. Jodie feels Shona abandoned her and broke a promise to take her with her to a better life. Seeing Shona with the house, the husband, and the family – everything Jodie ever dreamt of – is hard for her. She blames Shona for the fact that she doesn’t have those things too’.
In a recent interview, Executive Producer Kate Brooks confirmed that Jodie is here to put one serious cat among the pigeons in the Platt homestead.
‘Jodie is a really interesting character. She’s a bit of a troublemaker, she’s got a bit of mischief in her eyes. All is not what it seems with Jodie and there’s a lot of layers to her. I think the audience are going to have a lot of fun unravelling who this person is, who Jodie is as a character and what she wants as well.
‘Keep an eye on her because there’s lots of secrets to explode and she’s going to bring an awful lot of drama to the Platt household.’
