Ben recently arrived on the cobbles as the new co-owner of the Rovers Return alongside Eva Price, portrayed by returning fan-favourite Catherine Tyldesley. The pair are joined by Ben’s mother Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) and their children, creating a fresh dynamic for the iconic pub.

According to reports, O’Callaghan will appear in the episode as Alan, featuring in flashback scenes that shed light on Ben’s complicated upbringing and the family relationships that shaped him.

ITV has yet to officially comment on the casting.

A Bold Storytelling Move for Coronation Street

This episode marks only the second flashback storyline for Coronation Street in recent months. Earlier this year, the soap explored the history of characters Lou and Mick Michaelis and their connection to Kit Green in a special episode that earned praise for its emotional depth.

The decision to revisit a character’s past through flashbacks is part of Corrie’s growing trend toward cinematic storytelling — offering viewers deeper psychological insight into the characters behind Weatherfield’s most dramatic moments.

O’Callaghan made a lasting impression on EastEnders audiences as Lewis Butler, the manager of The Prince Albert bar who became entangled in one of the show’s darkest and most challenging storylines. His portrayal of Lewis was central to a sensitive exploration of consent, accountability, and trauma — themes that left a lasting mark on the Square.

His transition from Walford to Weatherfield signals another bold career move, and fans are already intrigued to see how his character, Alan, will connect to Ben’s backstory in Coronation Street.EastEnders' Aidan O'Callaghan unrecognisable as he transforms for new role in Netflix's The Witcher: Blood Origin

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the flashback is expected to explore the emotional roots of Ben’s personality and the events that shaped his complex relationship with his family. Viewers can anticipate a dramatic, character-driven episode that deepens the mystery surrounding the Driscoll family’s arrival at the Rovers.

With Aidan O’Callaghan’s proven emotional range and Aaron McCusker’s nuanced performance, this storyline promises to be one of Coronation Street’s most compelling moments of the year.
