Roll out the welcome mat. #YR just called Summer home… but which Summer will we get?

The Young and the Restless sure knows how to get people talking. In the January 15 episode (recapped here), Nick placed a call to daughter Summer, informed her that half brother Noah is back in Genoa City, and added that it was time for her to return, too.

Not only does Nick want Summer home, he wants her well-informed, too. He has some intel to share, he said during the call. No doubt, he’s gonna be the one to break it to Summer that Phyllis has gone so rogue as to attack her grandpa’s empire.

Young & Restless Hints That Summer's Returning: Will She Be Recast?

So on one hand, Nick’s info drop could bring Summer racing back to read her mother the riot act. But on the other, Summer could throw up her hands and say, “I’m already stinkin’ rich. I’m staying out of it.”

Heck, she could go on a round-the-world cruise with the guy she was said to be seeing, the new Marchetti exec she hired. (Because of course characters on this show only date executives!)

If Thursday’s episode is a precursor to Summer’s comeback, the question then becomes who will play the legacy character. It seems unlikely that it will be Allison Lanier, who upon exiting in May said that “it’s time to grow in a different direction.” We also doubt that we’d get back Hunter King, who is now up to her heart in Hallmark projects.

On Reddit, names bandied about include Sofia Mattsson (ex-Sasha, General Hospital) and Kim Matula (ex-Hope, Bold & Beautiful). But the former is likelier to return to her old soap, where a ton of storyline awaits her beleaguered alter ego, and the latter is currently taping Season 2 of The Hunting Wives. (More on that here.)

Nicola Peltz would make a great Summer, but she’s making it big on the big screen. (The heiress made her directorial debut with 2024’s moving Lola.) Perhaps Lili Reinhart (Betty, Riverdale)? Or Kristen Alderson (Starr, One Life to Live), who previously auditioned to play Summer?
