PUB LIFE Former England star, 38, makes Coronation Street cameo as ‘chav’ and reveals major soap secret

A RETIRED football star has revealed she made a surprise cameo on Coronation Street and ended up stealing a kebab while playing a “chav”.

The former Lioness, 38, appeared on the famous cobbles for a sketch on A League of Their Own and got to live out her soap star dreams, dodgy Manchester accent and all.

Speaking about the experience on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky bet Jill Scott admitted: “It was for League of Their Own and I had to do a bar scene, it was so hard, a proper Manchester accent.

“I just had to say ‘I’m here for the bar job’ It was so bad, I don’t know why but it was just awful. It’s actually in one of the episodes.”

Jill threw herself into the role, creating her own character: “I loved it. You walk in and you can create your own character.

“I was a bit of a chav, I thought I looked like a bit of a chav.”

As part of the skit, Jill’s character tried to land a bar job at the Rovers Return, then made a swift exit after grabbing a kebab.

She added on her role: “Then Chesney walked in- you know, Chesney who works in the kebab shop – and basically I stole a kebab.

“Then I had to act surprised and run off. It was really fun.

Jill said it took three takes to get the scene right and while the pub looked the part, she’s not convinced the pints were real.

She said: “It was like a pump, but I don’t know if it was proper beer. I think it was just apple juice.”

A long-time Corrie fan, Jill was thrilled to meet some of the cast, especially one in particular.

She revealed: “I love Coronation Street, it’s so iconic. I even met my favourite – Roy. Roy Cropper from Roy’s Rolls.

“I was running down the cobbled streets looking for all the actors and actresses. I think I’m going to have a restraining order soon.”

Jill’s teammate for the challenge, Jamie Redknapp, also took part — and impressed with his ad-libbing skills.

She added: “Jamie did it so well though. He was really good and he was ad-libbing.”

Retired Jill enjoyed a blisttering career with Sunderland, Everton, Manchester City, Everton and Aston Villa. She also played 161 times for England.
