NEW HEARTBREAKING! EastEnders star Shona McGarty ‘splits from fiancé David Bracken’ just one year after he proposed

Shona McGarty has reportedly split from her fiancé David Bracken a year after his romantic proposal in London’s Holland Park.

The EastEnders star, 34, who played Whitney Dean for 16 years, met the Irish guitarist in 2023 after he messaged her on TikTok asking if she wanted to sing a duet.

A source close to McGarty told The Sun on Sunday that the couple have parted ways but remain on good terms.

The insider said: “They are on amicable terms, but have ended their romantic relationship. There are no hard feelings — they realised they wanted different things and are better off as friends. Shona is now focusing on her music and career.”

Her representatives have been approached for comment.

McGarty made headlines last year when she revealed she “had no idea” Bracken was planning to propose. The pair were enjoying a romantic picnic in Holland Park when David, who plays in a band called Blessed, decided to pop the question.

However, his plans were nearly ruined when police arrived to close the park.

He told OK! Magazine: “I went over to the police, who said, ‘Sorry, we are just closing up the park.’ I said, ‘Would you mind giving me five minutes as I am about to propose to my partner?’ He looked at his watch and said, ‘Of course, and best of luck.’

“So, I told Shona to go stand at the waterfall in the park. I then put on our favourite song and had a dance with her before getting down on one knee.”

Bracken proposed in the park’s picturesque Kyoto Garden — complete with flowing waterfalls, koi carp pond and stone lanterns — a spot he said reflected Shona’s love of Japanese culture and its tranquillity.

The couple had spoken about marrying in 2025, possibly even at Christmas, with much of the EastEnders cast expected to attend after being “a big part of the couple’s journey.”
