Netflix’s ‘Yellowstone’ Replacement Just Got One Step Closer to Our Screens With a Major Season 2 Update
Netflix attempted to recreate the magic of Yellowstone earlier this year with Ransom Canyon, and while the show may not be as popular as
Taylor Sheridan’s hit Western, it was still a massive success for the streamer. The uncertain fate of Ransom Canyon hung in the balance for
several weeks after the show premiered all its episodes, but it finally scored a Season 2 renewal at the end of June. Three months later,

news just broke that Ransom Canyon Season 2 is now finally in production, with The Green Mile star Patricia Clarkson joining the cast in a guest role.
Starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, Ransom Canyon immediately drew comparisons to Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone, as many contemporary Western TV shows often do. However, while Yellowstone is based more on drama, Ransom Canyon delves deeper into romance. The show is set in a small Texas town, where three interwoven ranching dynasties fight for their land, legacies, and the people they love. The series debuted with a Rotten 45% from critics on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, but it earned a solid 73% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. It’s based on the novel by Jodi Thomas and written and created for television by April Blair.
Netflix has yet to announce the release date for the second season of Ransom Canyon. It’s unclear how long it will take for Season 2 to complete production, but assuming it will be filming for the rest of this year, the safest potential release window for Ransom Canyon Season 2 lies in the second half of 2026. The fate of the series beyond Season 2 has yet to be revealed, and it likely won’t be until the show wraps up its second season. The series also stars James Brolin, the father of Josh Brolin.
