Every streamer is now looking for its own Yellowstone, and Netflix may have finally found it in this tale of two warring families during the

Old West. Led by a pair of powerhouse performers in Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and The X-Files icon Gillian Anderson, Netflix has

now released our first look at The Abandons, which should provide Taylor Sheridan fans with more betrayal, rivalry, and cowboy hats than even they can handle.

 

 

The Abandons “ain’t your father’s Western — it’s your mother’s,” says Netflix of the series, which centers on a pair of feuding matriarchs Constance Van Ness (Gillian Anderson) and Fiona Nolan (Lena Headey) as they face off for control of the frontier. Set in 1850s

 

 

Washington, these two families — one wealthy, one poor — battle for supremacy as they go head-to-head in this gritty and cinematic storytelling of the haves and have nots. Created by Kurt Sutter, the series ditches the neo-Western for a straight-up Western. The Abandons is headlined by Lena Headey as nurturer and warrior Fiona Nolan, who Netflix describes as a “fierce, faith-driven matriarch of the family she’s brought together — abandoned souls on the fringes of society.” Fiona soon comes face-to-face with the powerful Van Ness family, who want to drive them from the cattle ranch (cue the Yellowstone comparisons) she built in silver-rich Jasper Hollow.

 

 

The Van Ness family is led by Gillian Anderson’s Constance Van Ness, who the streamer calls “a very different iron-willed matriarch” who will do whatever it takes to “consolidate the Van Ness clan’s power on the ruthless, unforgiving frontier, and no challenge to her ambition — especially from Fiona and her family — will go unchecked.”

The titular group, known as The Abandons, is led by Nolan, who holds together her found family of orphans and outcasts. This rag-rag family is made up of the devoted Elias Teller (Nick Robinson), the spirited Dahlia Teller (Diana Silvers), the level-headed Albert Mason (Lamar Johnson), and the fiercely loyal Lilla Belle (Natalia del Riego). Opposite them stands the powerful Van Ness family, ruled by calculating matriarch Constance. The Van Ness clan includes her ambitious son Garret (Lucas Till), rebellious daughter Trisha (Aisling Franciosi), and the eldest son Willem (Toby Hemingway).

The rest of the all-star cast includes Brían F. O’Byrne (The Bastard Executioner), Clayton Cardenas (Mayans M.C.), Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (Three Pines), Haig Sutherland (Lucky Hank), Jack Doolan (The Boys), Jonathan Koensgen (Reacher), Katelyn Wells (Ginny & Georgia), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), Marc Menchaca (Ozark), Michael Greyeyes (Blood Quantum), Michiel Huisman (Rebel Moon), Michael Ornstein (Sons of Anarchy), Patton Oswalt (A.P.
