Kayce’s journey on Yellowstone was defined by loyalty, conflict and family, and throughout the show’s run, he was one of the most beloved characters not only for the intensity he brought when the ranch needed him most but also for the softer side we often saw when it came to his son Tate and wife Monica. While there were many instances over the course of his journey on the series where he was torn in two different directions, he was a character we always found ourselves rooting for.

In the final season of Yellowstone, Kayce’s expedition throughout the show’s several seasons comes to a head when he sells the Dutton Ranch to Chief Thomas Rainwater and the Broken Rock Reservation for $1.25 an acre—the same price his ancestors purchased the land for originally. It was a symbolic way to conclude the Dutton story, and while the Broken Rock Tribe prepared for life on the Yellowstone, Kayce stipulated that he could have the East Camp to raise his family.

With that in mind, fans are wondering where Kayce’s story could go from there. On one hand, a spinoff could explore his future and life after Yellowstone. Now free of the pressures that his father’s ranch once put on him, there’s no saying what’s next for him and his family. On the other hand, Kayce has one of the most complex and mysterious backstories as a former Navy SEAL. Additionally, his strained relationship with his father in the early seasons was a major plot point, but even reflecting back and diving even further into the nuances of that strain could make for interesting television.

Currently, there is still no word on when the show will air or what Kayce will be doing, but Grimes did tease in an Instagram post following a recent musical performance that they were filming.

“Thanks @underthebigskyfestival for having us back for our last show of the year (gotta go do my other job for a while), ” he wrote on July 25. “This festival feels like home. Thanks to my band for believing in this music we make. Thanks to the music lovers who come out and bring out the energy in us. I can’t believe I get to experience all of this.”

that Marshals are law enforcers in Montana, and while we don’t know if that will be the main plot yet, we look into directions that Taylor Sheridan could take below.
