Like the rest of us, #BoldAndBeautiful’s Darin Brooks (Wyatt) is watching the Olympics. But one sport in particular is on his radar… and here’s why!

For a guy from Hawaii, trading sand and surf for curling stones wasn’t exactly second nature to Darin Brooks, but that’s the unexpected fun of his new film, The Roaring Game.

Brooks plays Rickey Rhodes, a down-on-his-luck janitor who puts together a team of misfits to compete in the sport of curling at the World

Games. He hopes to earn a gold medal and win back his girlfriend, played by Fivel Stewart, who just so happens to be competing on the women’s hockey team. The rom-com is “in the vein of those 80s, 90s comedies,” think “Dodgeball, Blades of Glory, [or] Kingpin,” he says.

The Bold and Beautiful alum is also in good company with Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke and former New England Patriots player Rob Gronkowski stepping into cameo roles. Working alongside icons in the acting and sports industry was inspiring, but there was something far more intimidating that Brooks had to master — the art and sport of curling.

“I am from Hawaii, and we only have one ice skating rink on the island,” Brooks recalls. “I know they had hockey teams and stuff like that, but there was definitely no knowledge of curling in Hawaii. I’ve never played, but for the film, we did a whole training, prep thing. The lovely people of Broomstones [Curling Club] in Massachusetts trained us.”

While Brooks probably won’t be the next curling star for Team USA, he did have some thoughts about the Olympic sports his daytime characters might play.

“I would say for Max… what would his sport be? Track and field, maybe he’s a runner?” Brooks says of his former Days of Our Lives race car driver character.

“Wyatt? Probably swimming because he’s a surfer dude,” he adds of his Bold and Beautiful role. “I would probably say he’d be in the pool.”

In the meantime, daytime fans can find Brooks hoping for a sweeping victory on the ice in The Roaring Game.

The Roaring Game is available beginning Feb. 6 on all major video-on-demand platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Fandango at Home, and YouTube Movies.
