Robert Redford, celebrated as an actor, filmmaker, film festival founder, and activist, died Tuesday at age 89 at his home in Provo, Utah. Redford’s representatives confirmed his death but had not provided a cause of death at press time.

Entering the big-screen business in 1960, Redford was at the forefront of several seismic industry shifts during his decades-spanning career.
