Kevin Costner Accused Of Lunging At ‘Yellowstone’ Co-Star Wes Bentley

The Hollywood star Kevin Costner’s past has come back to haunt him as he’s been hit with a damning accusation from the set of his former

show Yellowstone. Indeed, Costner has been accused of lunging at his Yellowstone co-star Wes Bentley on the set of the hit series.

Multiple sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the alleged brawl occurred when Costner, 70, and Bentley, 47, got into a disagreement over a scene.

Costner both starred in and executive produced Yellowstone, which ran for five seasons from 2018-2024. The conflict between the two actors began when Costner was allegedly pressuring Bentley to ditch Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s script. Instead, it seems that Costner wanted Bentley to follow his direction. When Bentley refused, things quickly went off the rails.

“Kevin didn’t like that, and he lunged at him,” claimed a source who was present for the alleged incident. “No fists were thrown, but they were in each other’s faces, pushing and shoving and just getting hot until they had to be separated.”

Another alleged witness claimed that the altercation was so intense that it left the Yellowstone actress Kelly Reilly in tears.

“The incident with Wes was the line in the sand,” the second source alleged. “Everything was different after that. Everyone loved Wes and so that really made Taylor upset. Kevin and Taylor butted heads from there on out. It got very awkward.”

Yet another Hollywood insider claimed that this incident was “a tipping point on a set already cracking from creative power struggles and bruised egos.” This source alleged that it’s one of many examples of Costner being “impossible” to work with.

“There’s a long list of people in Hollywood who swear they’ll never work with Costner again,” The Hollywood Reporter alleged.

A representative for Bentley confirmed that this physical altercation took place. This spokesperson added that it was a “work-related argument during an emotional and physically tough scene,” which was “discussed and resolved.”

Costner left Yellowstone when he declined to return to film the second half of the show’s fifth and final season. He did this because it would conflict with the filming of his four-part Western epic film series Horizon. Costner’s Yellowstone character John Dutton was subsequently killed off in the season five premiere.

Back in December of 2024, the Yellowstone star Luke Grimes admitted that it came as a relief when Costner was no longer on the show’s set.

“To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone,” Grimes explained to Esquire. “Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.”

This comes after years of rumors of conflicts between Costner and Sheridan. Costner himself addressed these rumors last year.

“I have taken a beating from those [expletive] guys, and I know a lot of times where it’s coming from,” Costner told Deadline at the time. “I just elected not to get into that. But if you know me well enough, I made Yellowstone the first priority, and to insinuate anything else would be wrong. I did not initiate any of those things. They did.”
