Coronation Street’s Tony Maudsley has wowed fans as he shared a throwback snap to one of his early TV roles. The Kirkby actor first appeared in Weatherfield in 2020 as George Shuttleworth and quickly became one of Coronation Street’s most important characters.
Viewers have grown to love George and Glenda’s brother and sister bond over the last few years. But George has had a turbulent time in the cobbles in recent months following his partner Eileen Grimshaw’s (Sue Cleaver) sudden exit.
The funeral director was heartbroken when Eileen bid farewell to the cobbles for good as she moved to Thailand with her son Jason. Ryan Thomas reprised his role as part of his soap mum’s exit storyline.
Tony regularly keeps his fans updated on his busy life away from the cameras. In a recent post on social media, Tony shared a throwback snap to his days working on Doc Martin.
Back in 2007, the actor appeared as Dave the postman in the hit ITV series. The show, fronted by Martin Clunes, ended in 2022 after 10 great seasons following the life of the surgeon in village of Portwenn.
Fans were pleased to see Tony reflect on his amazing career. Taking to the comments on Instagram, one follower said: “Love this Tony done so well.”
A second fan asked: “I’m back down in Port Isaac in three weeks time I can’t wait. You been back since Doc Martin Tony?” A third wrote: “You are an amazing actor.”
Tony has had an impressive career long before he landed the iconic role on the cobbles. He is renowned for his role as hairdresser Kenneth Du Beke in the sitcom, Benidorm.
The hugely popular British comedy show aired for 10 series. The series first launched in 2007, before finishing in 2018 as audience dropped significantly.
While on air, the show received plenty of awards. This includes National Television Awards and TV Choice Awards, even a BAFTA nomination. The show has even inspired many visits to the Spanish holiday spot.
However, fans may not realise that Tony portrayed a memorable role in Harry Potter as a half-giant. He starred in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was released in 2007.
The 57-year-old took to X in March this year to issue an update on his show future on Coronation Street. He revealed he wouldn’t be exiting Weatherfield anytime soon. He said: “That’s George serving (and burying) the good folk of Weatherfield till at least July 2026. Happy days!”
