Channel 4 has released first look images of Alan Cumming and David Morrissey in Russell T Davies’ new drama Tip Toe, which is set to air in 2026
Channel 4 has unveiled the first glimpse of Alan Cumming and David Morrissey in Russell T Davies’ highly anticipated drama Tip Toe.
The 62 year old screenwriter and producer, renowned for his award-winning series including It’s A Sin and Queer As Folk, has now crafted this fresh drama.
As the concluding week of production draws to a close, Channel 4 has shared exclusive first-look photographs showcasing the leading stars Alan, 60, portraying Leo, and David, 61, taking on the role of Clive.
Leo is the vibrant, witty and energetic proprietor of a Manchester Gay Village bar called Spit and Polish. In contrast, Clive is Leo’s stern and tormented neighbour living adjacent to him.
The official synopsis reveals: “Leo and Clive have lived next door to each other in Manchester for almost 15 years. But just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
“Words become weapons, opinions become radicalised, and gradually, two neighbours become deadly enemies in a tense, suburban thriller which challenges everything we consider to be safe.
“The series, populated with a cast of vibrant characters and underscored with Davies’ trademark wit and deft humour, is an urgent tale that brings a spotlight to bear on the prejudices which are creeping back into our lives, in a story that speaks not just to the queer community but to the world today.”
The series, filmed entirely in Manchester, boasts a star-studded cast including Pooky Quesnel as Clive’s wife Marie, Jackson Connor as Clive’s youngest son George, Joseph Evans as George’s older brother Saul, and Elizabeth Berrington as Leo’s best friend Stephanie.
Also joining the ensemble are Iz Hesketh as Zee and Shakeel Kimotho as Hanna, both employees at Spit and Polish. Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo joins the cast as Judy, the bar’s manager, while Paul Rhys portrays Melba, a regular on Canal Street.
Adding to the glittering line-up are Charlie Condou as Leo’s ex-husband Curtis, and Denise Welch as Diane. Both Charlie, 52, and Denise, 67, will be familiar faces to viewers from their stints on Coronation Street, where Charlie played Marcus Dent and Denise portrayed Natalie Barnes. Denise is now a regular panellist on Loose Women.
Russell expressed his excitement about the project, saying: “We’re in the final days of filming, and I’m so excited for 2026 – this show has some of the finest acting I’ve ever seen, from the most splendid cast, and I can’t wait for it to hit Channel 4.”
This follows Russell’s recent critically acclaimed drama, It’s A Sin, which poignantly explored the human tragedy of the 1980s AIDS crisis and became Channel 4’s biggest ever instant boxset on streaming.
Tip Toe is being produced by Quay Street Productions (a division of ITV Studios), with Russell, Nicola Shindler, Peter Hoar and Alan, who also stars in the lead role, serving as Executive Producers.
