Farewell Friendly Hero: Chicago Fire’s Joe Minoso Passes Away

The One Chicago franchise isn’t airing new episodes tonight, November 19, 2025, and NBC has a justified reason for it. As some of the

most-watched shows on the small screen, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med are major pillars of the network’s 2025-2026

programming cycle. All three shows are currently undergoing major transformations, whether that’s because of an ensemble overhaul or narrative demands. These stories have kept people tuning in week after week — both on live broadcast or post-airing availability on Peacock.

Is Joe Cruz Leaving Chicago Fire? What Happened to Joe Minoso?

On the heels of the success of the 2025 One Chicago crossover, there has been an increased attempt in having interactions among characters from Firehouse 51, Intelligence, and Gaffney. Currently, it’s uncertain if NBC is planning another major TV special — something that it used to do during the earlier years of the franchise but became a rarity after the pandemic. Regardless, however, each show has been building compelling storylines that fans can follow individually. Sadly, it will be a while before new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med come out.

Chicago Fire's Joe Minoso Says Cruz 'Lost a Big, Big Part of Himself'

After releasing their respective episode 7s, the One Chicago franchise has now officially started its mandatory winter hiatus. Because Chicago Fire season 14, Chicago PD season 13, and Chicago Med season 11 kicked off the year on October 1 — earlier than the majority of its scripted network TV peers, and released an outing week in and week out, they reached their episodic quota for 2025 quicker.

Luckily, despite the One Chicago universe already on break until the end of the year, it won’t be that long of a wait for the first responders to return after the New Year. NBC has already announced that the next new episodes for Chicago Fire season 14, Chicago PD season 13, and Chicago Med season 11 will all debut on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, on their regular timeslots.

Chicago Fire season 14, episode 7, on the other hand, won’t be taking much of a gap with regard to its storytelling, as its trailer features the immediate aftermath of the arson that puts Kelly Severide and Tom Van Meter’s lives in danger. From the looks of it, the OFI Captain may be in a more dire situation than Firehouse 51’s Lieutenant.

Finally, Chicago PD season 13, episode 7 will see the fallout from Eva Imani going rogue in the midseason finale. As she attempts to save the little girl that is being held captive by Raymond Bell. The trailer sees the latest Intelligence recruit seemingly trapped in the basement where the abusive suspect keeps his victims. No indication, however, that Hank Voight’s personal issue with being blackmailed will be resolved.
