“Engrossing” period drama with “superstar cameos” has just been added to Netflix
The period drama, which is the first spin-off for the hugely popular neo-Western drama, has just been added to the streaming service over
here, as well as in territories such as Canada, Germany, and Brazil (but not in places like America and Australia, we’re afraid).
Running as a 10-episode limited series between 2021 and 2022, the prequel stars country singers-turned-actors Tim McGraw and Faith Hill

as an earlier generation of the Dutton family as they journey across the land, before settling down in Montana and setting the foundation for the eventual Yellowstone ranch.
The show holds a very strong 89% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 27 reviews, with critics calling it “engrossing” and a solid expansion of the Yellowstone world.
In particular, actor Sam Elliot’s performance was seen as a highlight, while “superstar cameos” from the likes of Tom Hanks, Billy Bob Thornton, and even Taylor Sheridan added extra entertainment value.
After 1883 wrapped up, a second prequel spin-off titled 1923 premiered later the same year. Starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, this show actually received a second season, which premiered last month.
Yet another spin-off, the Michelle Pfeiffer and Patrick J Adams-fronted The Madison, is on its way. There’s no premiere date for it yet, however.
We also don’t know if Yellowstone is getting a sixth season, following the recent release of the long-delayed and Kevin Costner-less season 5 part 2.
