Laurel’s episode tonight focuses on the aftermath of her discovery that Ray had forced Dylan Penders and April Windsor to deal drugs for him. Dylan was responsible for putting Laurel in the picture, desperate to warn her that she shouldn’t trust her boyfriend.

In the new flashback footage, we see how Laurel panics over the revelation and rushes to see her teenage son Arthur. Fearful of the implications after welcoming Ray into her home, Laurel asks a baffled Arthur whether he’s one of the villain’s drug runners.

Shortly afterwards, Ray arrives and demands to speak to a terrified Laurel. While Laurel now believes that Ray is a monster, he tries to make her see the situation differently by explaining everything that he went through in his younger years.

“While this is Laurel’s big episode, it’s just as much Ray’s as we hear the full details of his backstory for the first time,” our Emmerdale insider teases.

“Ray was just 10 when he started dealing hard drugs for Celia, who’d welcomed him into her life when he had nobody else to rely on.

“Now recognising the reality of the situation for the first time, Ray begs Laurel to see that Celia manipulated him and he was a victim too – but will she view it that way?”

Ray finally turned against Celia at the start of the year, killing her in the hope that he could secure a happy future away from her malicious influence.

Of course, the plan didn’t work out – Ray’s own demise was revealed to viewers just days later and his body was soon found hidden in a van at Caleb Miligan’s depot.
