Emmerdale confirms shock death as killer pays the ultimate price

A tragic accident in Emmerdale last week left Kim Tate (Claire King) lying grievously injured in the woods, wondering whether anyone would come by and rescue her or whether she would die alone.

The accident came about because Sam Dingle (James Hooton) lost his job due to a dispute with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). Wanting to raise some cash, Sam planned a dodgy shoot on Kim’s land.

To keep Kim in the dark about this, Lydia (Karen Blick) agreed to distract her at the Christmas Fayre. Lydia wasn’t in a great mood with Kim following Joe’s treatment of Sam and after Kim made a stingy donation to the Christmas Fayre raffle, so she agreed to help Sam.

What Lydia didn’t realise was that Kim was planning a surprise for her. After weeks of Lydia hankering after a ticket to see Jason Donovan in concert, Kim had arranged for the man himself to put on a special mini concert for her at the Woolpack.

After all that excitement, Kim was concerned to hear from Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) that there was some odd activity taking place on her land. Heading off on her horse to investigate, Kim soon had an accident and fell from the horse.

This accident turns out to be fatal – for Kim’s precious horse, Ice. When Joe discovers just how bad the horse’s injuries are, he arranges for him to be euthanised. Kim is heartbroken.

You may remember Ice, the glorious white horse Kim rode to her wedding with Will Taylor (Dean Andrews). And you may also remember that he has blood on his hooves as he’s previously killed someone.

Craig Reed (Ben Addis) was a former friend of Lydia Dingle, and it turned out he was also the father of the baby she had who was stillborn. But when Lydia reconnected with Craig after starting to work for him, he soon showed a nasty side as he pressured her for sex. When she refused, he raped her

Ultimately Craig faced Dingle justice, with Sam and Cain (Jeff Hordley) both holding him hostage. Sam let him go, but later on he beat Craig up after Craig taunted him about Lydia, as Cain looked on.

They left Craig badly injured in a field. The next person who came along was Kim, riding Ice. When Craig got annoyed and grabbed for the horse, Ice reared up and kicked him. Kim realised that Craig was going to die from his injuries.

Cain helped Kim to cover up what had happened, and Kim and Ice didn’t face any repercussions for Craig’s death.

‘Joe is basically ousted from the house by Kim Tate, because she’s so cross, because of what he has done to her horse’, star Ned Porteous said.

‘So it’s going to be a different Christmas for Joe. I think he’s probably gutted about the fact he’s annoyed Kim. But at the time he believed he was doing the right thing, as Joe always does. Let’s just hope that he can win her around in the New Year.

‘So Christmas is a strange one for Joe. Not only does he end up spending it somewhere a little different this year, that’s a tease as he’s out of his comfort zone for sure, but this Christmas there is also a nice happy piece of news for him.’
