Thomas, who plays Peter Beale on the BBC soap, spoke warmly about reuniting with Jac, who returned to the role of Lauren Branning in 2023. The actor admitted it’s been a “special” experience sharing scenes with her once again.

“Ah she’s special,” Thomas gushed. “It’s been special working with her again, it’s nice being back in the show. It’s much faster pace than anything I’ve ever worked on. I would say EastEnders is my favourite job – I’ve learned all my skills on EastEnders and it’s taken me to other jobs I’ve done in my life.”

With Peter and Lauren facing fresh challenges in Walford, Thomas teased that viewers can expect plenty of drama in the coming months – including a heart-wrenching storyline involving their baby.

“Peter’s time in the soap, it’s going to be quite interesting,” he explained. “We’ve got a lot coming up. Obviously we have baby, Jimmy, who is blind, and there are a lot of difficulties with having a child that is blind.”

While the actor remained tight-lipped on the details, he promised that fans won’t want to miss the gripping storylines ahead. His comments suggest the Beales are about to be at the heart of some of the soap’s most emotional plots.

The National Television Awards, held at London’s O2 Arena, proved the perfect opportunity for Thomas to reflect on his time back in Albert Square – and the star admitted that, despite his experience across TV and film, nothing compares to the buzz of EastEnders.

Fans were thrilled when both Thomas and Jacqueline reprised their roles, with the pair’s on-screen chemistry already reigniting nostalgia for long-time viewers. With a dramatic new chapter looming, Peter and Lauren could well become one of the soap’s most talked-about couples once again.

The NTAs were hosted at London’s O2 Arena and saw the best in the TV biz come together for a night of celebration including This Morning hosts, Love Island stars and soap actors alike. Drinks were generously provided by Kylie Minogue, Gary Barlow, Heineken, and Birra Moretti, while the unforgettable atmosphere was expertly orchestrated by events agency Scenario UK.
