EastEnders Jack Branning star Scott Maslen addresses future on BBC soap after 18 years

EastEnders actor Scott Maslen has confirmed there’s more drama to come for his character Jack Branning and Ravi Gulati.

Earlier this week, Ravi (Aaron Thiara) set about retrieving the missing gun that Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier) had found and reported to his uncle Jack.

Ravi broke into Jack’s house to snatch the weapon back, but he was spotted by Denise Fox (Diane Parish).

During their chaotic showdown, the pair accidentally pulled the trigger and Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) was caught in the crossfire.

Copper Jack worked quickly to cover up their crime, claiming that the shooting was gang related and leaving the community frightened that the assailant could strike again.

However, the former love rivals later realised that they had missed their chance to hand in the gun, vowing to keep their heads down and hide the shooter together.

Speaking about the rivalry between Jack and Ravi, Scott said: “It’s perfect drama isn’t it really. The stuff with Jack and Ravi is just beginning and it goes everywhere.

“I don’t think in the history of the show they’ve had that link so it’s nice to have someone that is linked to the police. I don’t want to give too much information but it goes to mad places.”

Scott has played Jack since 2007 and he’s admitted that he’s “very excited” about the future of the soap as Ben Wadey takes over as Executive Producer.

The soap actor explained: “It’s exciting and that’s what it’s all about. It’s about nurturing, learning, sharing and telling important stories and we can do that.

“I’m very excited about the future because we’ve got lots of stories that we need to address because the world’s a mess.

“EastEnders is going to be even more key I think moving forward because we’re in desperate times and the right messages are really important.

“Ben [Wadey] has come in and created some brilliant scripts. I’m very excited because we come out of the ashes but we haven’t started flying yet.

“I think EastEnders used to be you liked certain families and you’d go and have a cup of tea when the other ones were on but now it is you go from person to person and you’re watching all of them.”
