EastEnders airs shocking Mark Fowler return twist in early iPlayer release
EastEnders has aired an unexpected twist involving Mark Fowler Jnr, as he makes a sensational return to Albert Square. Mark’s comeback was recently confirmed following his appearance in the flashforward episode, with Stephen Aaron-Sipple taking over the role from Emmerdale’s Ned Porteous. But when Mark returns, his loved ones are in for a shock…

It’s a big week for the Mitchells, with Sam preparing to undergo a lumpectomy to treat her breast cancer. She recently told her son Ricky about her diagnosis in emotional scenes, and he vowed to support her.
In today’s episode, as Phil got ready to head to the hospital to see Sam, he secretly packed a bag for his trip to Portugal with Nigel – which he hasn’t told Julie about.
As Sam waited in hospital for her important operation, Ricky and Jack sat by her side. Ricky made plans to go to a gig with his mum when she gets better, and Phil arrived to support his sister as she got emotional.
Meanwhile, Denise was concerned that Phil was hiding something so asked George to check on him for her.
When Sam woke up after her surgery, all her loved ones were waiting by her bedside. Drowsy Sam accidentally mentioned Phil and Nigel’s Portugal plan in front of George, who then confronted his friend about his secret.
Phil demanded that George stays out of his business, but George decided to phone Denise to tell her what he had just found out.
Later, Phil returned home to find Denise waiting for him, having found his getaway bag as well as his and Nigel’s passports.
Denise was furious that Phil was planning to take Nigel away from Julie and would risk getting arrested as a result of his escape plan.
But Phil refused to listen to Denise’s plea, insisting that he was doing what was what was best for Nigel and demanding that she leaves.
Denise’s words gave Phil pause for thought, but he decided to push on with his plan, and told Nigel that they would be heading to Portugal together that evening.
However, just as Phil was checking with Nigel that this adventure was what he actually wants, they were interrupted by a sudden knock on their door.
Phil was stunned to see his nephew Mark on his doorstep, and as he staggered into the house, it was revealed that he was battered and bruised, struggling to even stand up.
What has happened to Mark, and will Phil put his Portugal plan on hold?
