But it could well be that this type of groundbreaking episode will never happen again for the ITV shows. Iain told The Mirror and other press that currently nothing is planned, and he has no intention of doing another crossover episode as it stands.

He shared, adding it’s simply a way of introducing the new schedule: “People love Corrie and people love Emmerdale and their distinct entities. They have their own tone of voice and their own sense of humour and their way of telling stories, and they wouldn’t blend long-term at all.

“I think it’s brilliant to bring them together for this, but no, there are no plans to do anything similar in the future. Sorry to be the killjoy, those of you who were hoping there was [more].” Iain also explained the decision to change the evening slots for both shows, and to reduce Corrie to 30-minute episodes.

With this, Corrie will now air five days a week instead of three, and Emmerdale loses it’s hour-long episode on Thursdays. He shared: “What we’re discovering is more and more people are watching on ITVX and that’s upticked remarkably since we started making the episodes available from 7am on the day of transmission.

“If you’re trying to fit an episode of soap into your day, if you work from home or you work part-time or maybe you want to watch your soap in the evening, it’s much easier to do that if it’s a half-hour transmission rather than an hour-long transmission.

“It’s way more digestible, it is the right length of soap in my humble opinion, this is what soap started as, and yeah I think it definitely will be easier for people now, especially as they move more towards ITVX to pick up a half hour of Corrie or a half hour of Emmerdale, and fit it in.”

Iain also shared the decision-making behind the crossover name, Corriedale. He said: “To be honest, we spent ages thinking what’s it going to be called? And then we were like, well, Corriedale is almost the first word out of anyone’s mouths and we were like, that’s too obvious.

“There’s got to be something else we can call it. And we spent months and months torturing ourselves. But no, we’ll just call it Corriedale. It just makes no sense to go the other way.

“Corriedale was the logical choice, I think, and it works. I love the logo. I might have that printed on a t-shirt or something, just so it stays with me forever because it looks great and it’s a soap first. I cant think of anything I’m more proud of in my career.
