Coronation Street’s Vicky Myers addresses distraught Lisa’s abuse amid ‘phenomenal’ Corriedale episode

Poor Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) has been going through it in Coronation Street as of late, thanks to the sudden arrival of late wife Becky (Amy Cudden).

We all believed that Becky Swain had been killed in a hit-and-run several years ago, until she appeared in the living room of No.6 this summer.

It transpired that she had been living in Spain under a new identity all along, but had come back to claim Lisa after learning of her engagement to Carla Connor (Alison King).

Carla was instantly suspicious of Becky’s motives, and tried to get Lisa to see what her ex-wife was trying to do them.

However, the emotional toll of Becky’s return has left Lisa vulnerable, as actress Vicky Myers explained to Metro at the Corriedale premiere this week.

Having spent years grieving and watching daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) struggle to move past her mum’s death, it is understandable why Lisa is desperate to see the good in Becky.

Unfortunately, this has cost her her relationship with Carla.

In recent weeks, Carla decided she could no longer put up with Becky’s meddling and moved out. However, when she changed her mind about wanting a future with Lisa, it was Lisa who shut Carla out.

‘I think it’s interesting in the fact that for, in particular, Lisa’s situation; the coercive control and that manipulation and the drip-feeding [from Becky], because that’s something that she’s been so used to for twenty years,’ Vicky explained.

‘So she’s questioning her relationship that she had with Carla in that sense, but she’s also grappled with fear in that she’s lost Becky once, she knows what it feels like.

‘She has to protect Betsy. Betsy is her world, so she’s so confused at the moment. She’s emotionally fraught. she’s totally distraught and it’s whether or not she’ll eventually get to see through it.

‘But that’s what soaps are brilliant at doing. They hold a mirror up to society, and if somebody can see themselves in that situation, and then can see how manipulative it can be and how destroying it can be, because we’ve seen a totally different character to Lisa as of late, so I think that’s really important that that is showcased as well.

‘But, again, if that’s been a part of your life for twenty years, then you immediately revert to type, but who knows how that will end. Let’s hope it does soon!’

Unfortunately for Lisa, Becky is set to get her feet well under the table over the festive period, taking advantage of Carla’s holiday to Lanzarote and upping the intimacy between herself and Lisa.
