Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor ‘shocked’ as she makes TV appearance alongside rarely-seen son
Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has said she is ‘shocked’ as she gave an update from her mammoth charity challenge alongside her rarely-seen son.
The actress, who is famed for playing namesake Sally Metcalfe in the ITV soap, is currently climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with her son, Samuel, for a charity close to her heart.
It was revealed earlier this year that she and her were preparing for a huge challenge on behalf of Prevent Breast Cancer, the charity she is patron of.
On Instagram, Sally shared at the time: “My son Sam and I have some news! We will be climbing the world’s tallest freestanding mountain, Kilimanjaro in September for @preventbreastcancer.
“It will be 16 years since my diagnosis. Like so many other families, we never thought this would happen to us, but it did. Help us break the cycle of breast cancer. Anything you can donate would go directly to @preventbreastcancer. JustGiving link in bio.”
The charity challenge comes after Sally had her own experience of breast cancer, almost 16 years ago. She was told she had the disease in November 2009, at the same time was filming heartbreaking Corrie scenes, which saw her much-loved character reeling from the news that she had the same disease.
Sally and Sam began their mission to trek up the dormant Tanzanian volcano, which is the highest free-standing mountain above sea level in the world, at 5,895m, over the weekend, alongside a number of other fundraisers.
On Wednesday (September 10) Sally appeared live from the trek on ITV’s Lorraine, marking a rare TV appearance for her son, Sam, whose siblings, Phoebe and Hattie, are actresses like their mum.
Speaking live to show host Lorraine Kelly, Sally said: “We’ve done so well so far. We’ve raised nearly £80,000, Lorraine, which is an incredible about of money. We’re so pleased.”
Of Sam, Sally said: “I’m so happy Sam’s with me. It’s tough, isn’t it Sam?” to which he replied: “It is tough but I’ve got to say Lorraine, I’m so immensely proud of mum. To be able to do a challenge with her is amazing. She’s smashing it!”
Sally and Sam were then surprised with messages from Tim, Hattie and Phoebe Dynevor before the soap star shared the importance of Preven Breast Cancer’s “incredible” work, and hailing her fellow trekkers.
But the challenge is one Sally didn’t expect. “It’s tough! It’s not easy. I’m really shocked at how difficult it is but everyone’s doing really, really well and I’m very, very proud of everyone. It’s been amazing!”
