Tonight’s episode (9 January) sees Jodie finally make her presence known after watching Shona and David from afar in recent days. Shona is shocked to see her sibling back in her life after all this time, but makes the difficult choice to turn her away as she has too much else going on at the moment.

However, next week’s episodes see persistent Jodie visit the couple in hospital again. This time she reveals that she was in the same car crash as Shona and David and they’re left stunned. Then when David finds Jodie having a panic attack in the car park, he’s at a loss about how to help her.

“David has enough on his plate already, but when Jodie admits to him that she has nowhere to stay, he befriends her,” explains our Corrie insider. “He may be sarcastic at times, but he can recognise that she’s in need of help, so he takes her to No.8.

“Bethany and Lily instantly love her, and they start to bond – but not everyone is so keen on the mysterious new visitor…”

When Nick Tilsley calls in at his brother’s house and finds Jodie there, he’s startled. However, his mood sours further, and by the time David and Shona return home, they find Nick and Jodie at loggerheads.

The tension in the room increases when Shona spots some suspicious bruising on Jodie’s wrist…

“Caring Shona is immediately concerned by the bruising, as it doesn’t seem as though it came from the car crash,” our spy continues. “Jodie explains that she was trying to escape an abusive relationship before the accident – but of course we know that she was actually tied up in the dodgy van being driven by Emmerdale’s Graham Foster.”

Later on, Jodie decides to surprise Shona by making her lunch – but how far will Shona be able to extend her hospitality?

Meanwhile, the turmoil continues for David and Shona when their newborn daughter Harper is left fighting for her life – in desperate need of an emergency blood transfusion.

“David and Shona are thrown into panic when an alarm starts to ring while they’re visiting their fragile daughter,” reveals our Coronation Street source.

“Being born prematurely and undergoing complex surgery so soon afterwards has left young Harper extremely vulnerable. The doctor tells David and Shona that their baby needs the transfusion desperately – but can it be done in time to save her life?”
