Fans will be treated to the shocking details of her earlier days, as the soap gears up for its epic festive special in the coming weeks.

The storyline unfolds as Maggie prepares to celebrate her 65th birthday.

But while its a huge occasion for the family matriarch, tensions continue to boil over at The Rovers.

“As it’s a landmark birthday, it’s inevitable that you would think about the past: what got you to where you are, and people that aren’t around anymore,” Pauline McLynn revealed to Digital Spy.

“You see Maggie prepare for it. We’ve seen her put on a show on theme nights in the pub already, but you see her almost exhausted before the big 65th, just going, ‘Right, it’s showtime,’ and she literally says it to herself, puts on the lipstick, and goes out there.”

As her birthday celebrations kick off though, Maggie seems to get deeper in thought.

“As all the merriment is going on around her, she remembers when her sons were growing up,” she explained. “For me, it was just the most magical, strangest thing ever because you see through Maggie’s eyes, and I got to meet the younger me.”

The flashback will see Maggie, who is married at the time, get into a tense altercation on the staircase.

The flashback episode set to showcase the darker side of Maggie, it will beg the question whether daughter-in-law Eva should be increasingly concerned over their feud.

Maggie’s fiery nature is also on full display in present-day scenes when it comes to Eva.

Pauline claimed the pair would probably be friends if Ben wasn’t involved in their dynamic.

However, the overprotective matriarch clearly fears losing part of her son to Eva and is being needlessly mean as a result.

Teasing fireworks ahead, she said the relationship was about to reach crisis point”.

We revealed how Maggie’s murderous past will come to light ahead of the Christmas season.

A TV insider said: “When viewers see whose death Maggie was behind it will really send shockwaves through Weatherfield and life will never quite be the same again for her.

“The killing happened prior to her moving into the Rovers Return with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, and none of them will be aware of it.

“But it will all come out in a bombshell storyline leading up to the festive season.”

The explosive flashback will air on December 8, just over two weeks before the soap’s Christmas Day special.
