‘Chicago Fire’ Introduces a New Firefighter You’ll Love to Hate

The new Chicago Fire season, premiering this fall, brings with it a fresh batch of stories that test the range of human emotions. From sad

departures to thrilling rescues and shocking plot twists, the upcoming season promises more of what viewers love. There will be new faces

as the CFD shakes up the entire department, leading to multiple departures and some arrivals. The biggest one this season is the

introduction of firefighter Sal Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente), who arrives at the firehouse to help alleviate the workload now that Ritter (Daniel Kyri), Carver (Jake Lockett), and Damon (Michael Bradway) are leaving. However, the new guy will have to make some changes to fit into 51’s culture. “Sal is good at his job and he knows it,” Larracuente said in a recent interview while previewing the character.

This season finds the firehouse dealing with aggressive budget cuts that force it to downsize on several fronts. “There will be a big effect on all our players, especially the medics,” teased showrunner Andrea Newman. Multiple firehouses close their doors, and their load is carried by Ambulance 61. This causes a lot of pressure on Violet (Hanako Greensmith), who is also dealing with two departures: her boyfriend and her best friend. Will moving Will Capp (Randy Flagler) to an ambulance help the situation?

Meanwhile, Severide takes on more responsibilities in the firehouse while others beckon at home. He is expecting a baby with Stella, and their jobs are some of the riskiest. Elsewhere in the firehouse, another pair of best friends will deal with some interpersonal conflict when Herrmann (David Eigenberg) decides to give his lieutenant title to Mouch (Christian Stolte). Still, the power imbalance threatens to derail their friendship. Will they be able to work it out ?
