Now let’s get into the latest shocker from Weatherfield.

Coronation Street actor James Cartwright has finally broken his silence about the disturbing storyline involving his character, Theo Silverton, and Todd Grimshaw. What started as a passionate romance has spiraled into something far darker — a storyline now rooted in control, obsession, emotional abuse, and violent outbursts.

Cartwright revealed that even he didn’t expect the plot to escalate so quickly.
He joked that some of the scripts have left him “choking on his cornflakes” with surprise, hinting at just how intense the upcoming episodes will be.

Speaking about Theo’s downward spiral, the actor admitted that his character is no longer just complicated — he’s becoming dangerous.

Cartwright explained:A YouTube thumbnail with standard quality

“We always knew Theo had layers, but we’re now at the point where the hurt inside him is turning into something he can’t control. He’s a threat, not only to himself but to people around him.”

When asked whether Theo genuinely loves Todd, Cartwright didn’t hesitate:

“Oh, he absolutely believes he loves Todd — maybe too much. It’s crossed the line into obsession.”

With his marriage ruined, his children estranged, and his work life at a standstill, Todd has become Theo’s only emotional anchor. And when a desperate person fears losing the one thing they have left, that’s when the dangerous behavior starts.

As Cartwright puts it, possessive partners — regardless of gender — often isolate the person they claim to love. The questions begin:
“Where were you?”
“Who were you with?”
“Why didn’t you call?”

And Theo is now slipping deeper into this pattern.

Next week’s episodes will push things even further.

After forcing Todd into an extreme half-marathon training regime, Theo becomes convinced that James Bailey is flirting with Todd — and this jealousy triggers a violent attack. The storyline shows Theo crossing yet another line, marking one of the darkest chapters Todd has ever faced.

Cartwright acknowledged that filming these scenes has been incredibly challenging:

“Domestic abuse is very real, and around Christmas it often escalates. Everyone on set treats these scenes with seriousness and respect.”

He also stressed the importance of portraying the storyline accurately:

“There’s a balance between drama and truth. If you rush this kind of plot, you risk disrespecting the people who’ve lived it. Many victims don’t even recognize they’re experiencing abuse — they rationalize it or blame themselves.”

With Theo tightening his grip and Todd becoming more vulnerable, viewers should brace themselves — things are about to get much darker in Weatherfield.
