Coronation Street lands surprise new streaming home – but there’s a catch

If you log onto Disney+ in the UK you might have noticed that Coronation Street, of all shows, is now available to watch on the platform. It’s not a glitch! The beloved soap has landed a new streaming home – but there’s a catch.

ITV and Disney have been sharing a lot of content lately, with the ‘A Taste of…’ project designed to let people who use only one of their streaming services sample shows and films from the other, and hopefully get them to subscribe.

Now, ITV’s flagship soap has made its way onto the House of Mouse’s platform, sitting alongside all the Star Wars, Marvel, classic fairy tales, Alien, and all the rest.

However, there is one major caveat – there aren’t any classic episodes available to stream, with the first episode featured being the Monday, 26 January, 2026 instalment.

The show is also a week behind what you would get on ITVX and YouTube, while episodes are dropping in batches of five on a Friday.

Soaps have been experimenting with their release strategy in recent years in order to grow their audience, from early episode drops on streaming to simultaneous ITVX and YouTube releases.

But since keeping up with the conversation is such a big part of the soap-watching experience, will dropping Corrie episodes on Disney+ up to 11 days after first release really do much in terms of numbers?

Coming up on Corrie, recent couple George Shuttleworth and Christina Boyd – played by long-term real-life friends Tony Maudsley and Amy Robbins – will be facing some legal dramas thanks to the family of a recently-deceased client.

You can also find out about every other storyline that Corrie has got in the pipeline right here, with exits, comeuppances, and secret past reveals aplenty!
