Lawrence Saint-Victor Reveals Why Carter’s Romantic Choices Frustrate Fans on ‘Bold and the Beautiful’
Lawrence Saint Victor has been a fixture in daytime television since his debut on Guiding Light in 2000. Now, the Bold and the Beautiful actor, and current writer for the CBS soap, is offering new insight into how he approaches one of daytime’s most polarizing characters.
In a recent interview on The Darnell Weeks Show, Saint-Victor reflected on his decades-long career in daytime TV, including his transition from actor to writer on The Bold and the Beautiful.

During the conversation, Saint-Victor was asked how he handles online fan reactions to his character, Carter Walton, particularly when viewers express frustration with his storylines. “Fans not being happy doesn’t bother me as long as they’re not happy about the right thing,” Saint-Victor said.
He explained that some viewers complaints actually signal that the character is working as intended. “Fans not being happy that Carter keeps losing. Like he’s not happy either. That’s a good thing to not be happy about.”
Saint-Victor also addressed Carter’s romantic missteps, framing them as an intentional character flaw rather than a narrative misfire. “If you’re unhappy that Carter keeps rushing into love. I’m like, well, that’s his character flaw,” he said. “Carter has an anxious attachment style. He wears his heart on his sleeve and there is a hole in his heart.”
According to the actor, that emotional vulnerability is what makes Carter compelling to play. “When he falls for someone, believe me, if he can control it and just play it cool, he would. He literally can’t, and that’s fun to play.”
Saint-Victor contrasted watching Carter’s romantic choices to a slow-motion train wreck, frustrating, but gripping. “I’m sure it’s very frustrating to watch, but that’s the jelly. That’s the point. You see a guy you care about running on the railroad tracks and as an audience, you can see the trains coming, but he can’t. To me, that’s fun to watch. Frustrating, but fun to watch.”
The Bold and the Beautiful actor Lawrence Saint-Victor expressed his hope that the show would explore a specific storyline for his character, Carter Walton. He pointed out certain traits that Carter harbors and said that exploring the storyline could explain the reasoning behind it.
Lawrence Saint-Victor has played Carter Walton on The Bold and the Beautiful for more than a decade now. He joined the show in 2013 and has been a recurring character ever since. While he has found a family among the Forresters, there is very little information about his biological family. The actor believes that the show should explore his past, particularly his early life.
In an interview with Soaps.com, Saint-Victor said, “I would love to get into Carter’s family life. Like, why is he the way he is?” He added, “He’s a very interesting character to me [because he] presents himself as so good and so earnest and so perfect. But then, when he’s in these relationships, it almost looks like he’s trying too hard.”
The 43-year-old went on to explain that he suspects something “broken” within Carter that motivated him to work harder. He said that it might have something to do with Carter’s family history.
While discussing Carter’s past, the actor teased that he might not have had a healthy relationship with his parents. He pointed out that Carter’s brother,
While discussing Carter’s past, the actor teased that he might not have had a healthy relationship with his parents. He pointed out that Carter’s brother, Marcus, was on a journey to locate his biological parents, which further supports the idea of a difficult upbringing. “It was like there was something that he was getting away from,” the Stepford Sidechix actor shared.
Saint-Victor further speculated that their relationship with their parents must have been very “toxic”. He reasoned that while one brother is searching for his “real family,” the other is focused on making a career far away from them. He added that Carter believes he “deserves happiness.”
