coming back for more. After all, cowboys and ranch wranglers are simply the cherry on top of a binge-worthy series that is already overflowing with family tumult and more than just one underdog story. While the wait has been long, the second season has officially wrapped, meaning it’s only a matter of time until the platform reveals a Season 2 premiere date.

In the meantime, thanks to Collider’s Perri Nemiroff, we’ve got a juicy update from one of the show’s up-and-coming stars. While in attendance at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where he was supporting the premiere of his upcoming comedy-drama, Chasing Summer, Garrett Wareing spilled the piping-hot tea on the drama set to unfold over the next set of episodes. Touching on the bittersweet feelings

that come with being part of a breakaway hit like Ransom Canyon, The Long Walk star said, “It’s kind of daunting when you set a standard for yourself, and I think we’ve done that with our careers, and it’s very exciting, but you want to keep leveling up, like you said.” To push the modern Western star-crossed love story onto a new playingfield, Wareing said of Season 2, “I will say Ransom Canyon Season 2 is sexier and steamier and more dramatic. It’s everything that you want Ransom Canyon to be.”

Numerous ranching dynasties are at war with one another in Ransom Canyon, which takes its story from the book series penned by Jodi Thomas. In the Texas Hill Country, the cattle and horses aren’t the only things driving the ranchers insane, as plenty of small-town drama and a questionable death kick off the first season. At the center of the tale is Josh Duhamel’s Staten Kirkland, who is forced to put everything on the line to grasp onto the reins of the ranch he calls home. Throughout the first season, at Staten’s right hand, is Wareing’s Lucas, a high school boy who helps out around the ranch and has an on-again-off-again relationship with the Sheriff’s daughter, Lauren Brigman (Lizzy Greene).

From the moment it galloped into town with all ten episodes of its first season arriving on Netflix last spring, Ransom Canyon proved itself to be another winner for Netflix. Despite a lower-than-desired Rotten Tomatoes score, the show spread through word of mouth and clocked in a staggering 228.9 million viewership hours. Next season is already off to a different start, as it was previously revealed by series star Minka Kelly that the episode count would be reduced from ten to eight for its follow-up chapter. Still, there’s no doubt that Ransom Canyon fans will tune in to see what’s next for the hardworking folks in the titular town when it eventually returns for Season 2.

Wareing’s new movie Chasing Summer is currently enjoying its debut at Sundance, with daily showings through February 1. The official synopsis for the film, directed by Josephine Decker and written by Iliza Shlesinger, reads:

Shlesinger also stars in the film alongside Wareing, Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Cassidy Freeman (The Righteous Gemstones), Tom Welling (Smallville), and Megan Mullally (Will & Grace).
