Young & Restless Thursday Recap: Burrow Betrays Mitch

The Y&R photos for January 26 include Sharon (Sharon Case) hugging her son. Now that Victor (Eric Braeden) has taken care of Roger Howarth’s Matt Clark (hopefully), Sharon, Nick (Joshua Morrow), Noah (Lucas Adams), and Sienna (Tamara Braun) can mostly relax. The four are looking more peaceful. Even Nick, who is sporting a cane instead of a crutch, is looking better. It was rough going there for a while. And Sienna and Noah are sticking close together.

Despite the smiles and hugs, there will be lingering drama and burning questions. Has Matt really been handled? According to the weekly spoilers, Sharon worries about Noah’s future with Sienna. When a couple goes through intense drama, they may not come through intact on the other side. But there’s also the fact that Nick was popping pills while he tried to take care of Matt himself. What’s the status of his pain threshold? Will he become dependent on the pills he used to lessen the pain of his broken leg? Or is all of that mess behind him?

The Young and the Restless actress Sharon Case has worked with many of daytime’s top leading men. But when it came to working with Roger Howarth, she admits to being starstruck.

Throughout her 30-year soap opera career, Case (Sharon) has worked alongside many top actors. From Eric Braeden (Victor) to Joshua Morrow (Nick) to Peter Bergman (Jack); she’s shared scenes with daytime’s elite. But her latest co-star knocked her socks off.

Howarth (Matt) is an icon in daytime TV, famous for his roles on One Life to Live, As the World Turns, and General Hospital. When it was announced he was joining Y&R, not only were fans excited, but also Case. In an interview with Michael Fairman TV, the actress opened up about learning Howarth would be her new scene partner.

“When I had heard that Roger was coming to Y&R, I was very excited because, of course, I’ve seen his work on General Hospital and he’s such a wonderful actor. I love when someone like that joins our show. I’m lucky enough to get to be his scene partner and be in the storyline with him.”

Initially, Howarth’s role was kept under wraps, then when it was revealed, Case was stunned. “I thought, ‘Wow! Interesting!’ I’ve always thought one of these days Matt Clark needs to come back again. He’s one of those (type of) return villains over the decades, as is Cameron Kirsten (Linden Ashby) and a few others.”

From Los Angeles to Genoa City, Matt’s reign of terror against The Newmans has continued. Although Matt is a long-time rival of Nick and Sharon, he’s turned his attention to their son Noah (Lucas Adams). Matt’s hatred for Noah stems from the young man’s affair with Matt’s wife, Sienna (Tamara Braun).

While things looked dire for Sienna when Matt kidnapped her, in true Newman fashion, she was rescued in the nick of time. After being bounced back and forth between The Abbotts and The Newmans, Matt is finally in Nick’s custody. Things aren’t looking good for Matt as Nick promises to end his reign of terror once and for all.

It’s uncertain how much time Matt has left in Genoa City. But one thing is for sure, Howarth has been a delight, giving a humorous and astounding performance as one of Y&R’s top villains.
