Young & Restless Recasts a Legacy Character Ahead of a Major New Storyline
Recasts and soap operas go hand in hand and viewers of The Young and the Restless are about to see the latest hit Genoa City this week. In fact, Devon and Abby’s son Dominic will now be played by newcomer Ethan Ray Clark, who will first appear on Friday, January 23.
And now Dom’s going to be back on our screens just in time for a major storyline. Back in November of 2025, during an interview with TV Watercooler, Bryton James warned that there was “quite a bit of drama coming up for ‘Dabby’.” Plus, just this month, a video clip appeared on Entertainment Tonight, that suggested Matt Cohen’s Detective Burrow will land in the midst of the couple’s problems.
While Abby and Devon have been parenting little Dom offscreen, it’s safe to say now that a new young actor is taking over the role, we’re going to see how well they do as tensions begin to test their marriage.
The show debuted its first new hire of 2026 in mid-January when the primetime vet first appeared as Sidwell’s partner in crime, WSB director Cullum.
It sounds like EJ’s about to wrap up his trip abroad. Marlena says Sydney’s doing better and EJ, as we all know, has a whole bunch of fires to put out back in Salem. If Gwen really did bring Dimitri to town, she may very well have shot herself and EJ in the foot with the funding.
But if EJ is about to return, it feels like something of a waste if he comes back alone. Because we can’t think of a better time for Sydney to return to town with him!
For one thing, we know Tate and Holly will be leaving, but it also looks like Ari will be sticking around, albeit recast. If Sophia — who is clearly not getting better at Bayview — ends up leaving as well, that potentially just leaves Aaron around as the only other Salemite of Ari’s age. And that doesn’t leave a whole lot for them to do.
But if Sydney came home, the college scene could open up a bit more again. After all, she was born in 2009, so she’ll legitimately be 17 as of January 28th. She wouldn’t even need to be aged much to put her in with the college crowd.
And who among us wouldn’t love to see EJ try to deal with a teenage daughter? We got a little peek of that with Holly, but Nicole was the real parent there. And speaking of which… Bringing Sydney home now would still give her a chance to interact with Tate and Holly. They’ll still be on our screens for the next nine or ten months. And seeing Sami’s daughter and Nicole’s daughter face off could set up the next big rivalry down the line!
Or they could become fast friends and drive both their mothers crazy off in Europe! Who can say?
As an added bonus, Sydney living in Salem could give Sami more of a reason to visit more often. And if she doesn’t want her daughter living in the DiMera mansion, we’re sure Marlena would be delighted to bring her granddaughter into her own home. Heck, the teen could be just who Marlena needs to add a little more joy into her life
