Coronation Street’s Becky saga declared “over” as her fate is finally revealed

Coronation Street closes a chaotic chapter tonight as the fate of Becky Swain is finally revealed. After being brought to justice over her many crimes, Becky seems to be facing a very bleak future behind bars – but does she bring anyone down with her?

Becky was finally caught out in the Corriedale crossover special last Monday (5 January) following months of scheming, which had pushed Lisa Swain and Carla Connor’s relationship to breaking point.

Becky's sinister plan to get rid of Corrie's Carla

Late last week, Becky revealed that she still wasn’t done, even though she was locked away in prison to await sentencing. When Lisa visited her at the jail for one last showdown, Becky twisted the knife by threatening to implicate her in the police corruption scandal when she spoke in court.

“I can make you look like an accessory and a lot more besides,” Becky warned. “How do you think we paid off the mortgage in double-quick time? See, you didn’t ask any questions, because you didn’t want to know the answers.”

In tonight’s episode, Lisa and Becky’s daughter Betsy dramatically intervenes after hearing what’s going on. She pays her own visit to Becky in jail and issues some harsh home truths – admitting that she wishes her spiteful mum had died for real.

Afterwards, Betsy fears that she’s made things worse, believing that her outburst will only make Becky even more vindictive. But when Lisa heads for a catch-up meeting with DI Thompson – her boss at work – there’s an unexpected outcome. Has Betsy’s outburst inspired Becky to take a long hard look at herself?

“The hearing’s over,” Thompson explains to Lisa. “She got 12 years. And as far as I know, your name wasn’t mentioned, which I guess is the good news.

“And the not-so-good news, you’re being placed on restricted duties while there’s an internal investigation. We both know that could have been a lot worse.

“Listen, from what I hear, you’re a good cop. Keep your head down and soon you’ll be able to put this whole chapter behind you.”

Later, Lisa catches up with Betsy at home and shares similar reassurances that they’ve finally heard the last of Becky.

“It’s over,” Lisa confirms. “She got 12 years. So we don’t ever have to see her again.”

With Becky out of the picture, Lisa and Carla are free to concentrate on working out their own future – how long will it take for them to reunite?

Coronation Street villain Megan Walsh shocks her teenage victim Will Driscoll tonight with the truth about her pregnancy. As Megan reveals what’s troubling her, viewers discover that she didn’t go through with having a termination last week.

Megan has been torn over her future since finding out that she’s expecting Will’s baby. While the news could threaten to expose her dark grooming secret, Megan also knows that this may be her only chance to become a mum.

In tonight’s episode, Will worries about Megan when she suffers a dizzy spell on school grounds. He desperately tries to support her, but she brushes him off as his visible concern could spark suspicion from the other students.
