The Taylor Sheridan Action Thriller That Audiences Declare a “Masterpiece” Shoots Onto New Streaming Home

Thanks to the neo-Western phenomenon Yellowstone and its various spin-offs, as well as a whole host of hit crime dramas, Taylor Sheridan

has become one of the best-known names in filmmaking. But while the actor, writer, director, and producer has now dominated the small

screen, he’s no slouch on the big screen either, with a Sheridan-led action thriller now shooting onto a new streaming home.

Inside '1923' Season 2 — Everything You Need To Know About the Taylor Sheridan Series

Featuring an all-star cast that includes Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jeffrey Donovan, and Raoul Trujillo, the action thriller in question is a sequel to one of Sheridan’s best movies, and sees the Yellowstone creator penning the script for director Stefano Sollima for this tale of human trafficking and the violence and struggle faced by those caught in the crossfire.

The action thriller follow-up that’s now streaming on one of the most popular platforms is Sicario: Day Of The Soldado, the sequel to Dune director Denis Villeneuve’s Academy Award-nominated crime thriller, Sicario. Day of Soldado hit theaters with a bang in 2018, coming three years after its critically acclaimed predecessor, and saw several characters from the first outing, including Benicio Del Toro’s eerily enigmatic Alejandro Gillick, a former Mexican prosecutor turned assassin, and Josh Brolin’s agent Matt Graver.

10 Must-Watch Movies for Taylor Sheridan Fans

After landing on and subsequently leaving such platforms as Netflix, Starz, and Tubi, Sicario: Day of the Soldado is now streaming on Prime Video, and you can check out the official synopsis below…

While the first Sicario was met with almost unanimous rave reviews from both critics and audiences alike, reaching scores of 92% and 85%, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes, the response to Sicario: Day of the Soldado was a lot more divisive. The sequel now holds a rating of 62% from critics alongside 66% from audiences on the Popcornmeter, and while some missed the expertly crafted subversion delivered in the first movie, there is still plenty for Taylor Sheridan and action fans to feast their eyes on, with Sicario: Day of Soldado being described as “a stylish, dynamic thriller.” Reactions from audiences since have hailed the Sicario sequel a “masterpiece,” “pretty awesome,” and “not far off” being just as good as the first.

A third movie in the Sicario franchise has been in development since Day of Soldada was released. Reportedly titled Sicario: Capos, not much has yet been revealed about the direction of the third outing, but MovieWeb has since spoken with the lead partners of Thunder Road Films, one of the production companies behind the Sicario movies, founder Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who revealed where Sicario 3 is in terms of development.
