There was an interesting tidbit tucked inside the just-released Young and Restless teasers for next week’s episodes: One of the spoilers for the Thursday, December 18 show reveals that Kyle (Michael Mealor) reaches out to Summer, who was last played by Allison Lanier. The character hasn’t been seen on air since May 2, when she left to go to work at the Marchetti office in Italy. She was only meant to be in Europe for a little while, until she settled her business there, but her overseas trip has become a more extended endeavor. The question is, could Kyle sending her a message be the first step in bringing Summer back home to Genoa City?

Nick and Phyllis’s daughter was born back in December 2006, and the character of Summer was played by a series of twins until child actress Samantha Bailey took over in June 2009. In May 2012, Lindsay Bushman stepped in as Summer was aged into a teenager, and in October of that year, the role was recast with Hunter King, who appeared on the soap until 2022 — and won two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Younger Actress during her run.

Just shy of three years later, in April 30, 2025, Lanier let her fans know that she was exiting the soap via a post on Twitter/X. “Hi guys!!” she wrote. “This Friday, May 2nd, will be my last episode on Y&R! I’ve loved the journey and learned so much but it’s time to grow in a different direction… very grateful for all of the Y&R fans who have supported me. ❤️”

There’s no indication as to why Kyle contacts Summer, but it could possibly have something to do with their son, Harrison. The young boy is certainly missing his mom and would be delighted if she were to come home to him. And while Kyle and Summer have been broken up for some time now, and a romantic reunion with his ex-wife seems unlikely, it’s definitely not impossible — at one time, they were a Genoa City power couple.

Outside of her connections to Kyle and Harrison, Summer is, of course, someone with major ties to the canvas as the daughter of Nick and Phyllis. In addition to her parents, she and Daniel share the same mother, and her half brother on her dad’s side, Noah, has made a recent return to Genoa City himself … alongside his older and married lover, Sienna. That sounds like something that Summer would have an opinion about!
