Coronation Street has shared full details of show legend Gail Chadwick’s return over Christmas. It was recently confirmed that star Helen Worth would reprise the role for a brief cameo, a year after her departure from the cobbles for a new life in France.

It then emerged that Gail’s comeback will be in the form of a message to her loved ones, and now further plot details have been unveiled.

In the scenes airing on Christmas Day, David is also celebrating his birthday and grumbles to Shona about his missing gift from his mother, as he’s sure that Gail ensured that it had been delivered.

Later on, the Platts assemble to watch the video message from Gail – but how will they feel about seeing her again, and what does she have to say to them?

Speaking after her exit from the soap last year, Helen shared a video message of her own to Corrie fans, saying: “Hello, all of you. It’s wonderful to have this opportunity to say, ‘ta ta!’

“It’s been a fabulous 50 years, and I just wanted to thank all of you, some of you who may have been watching for 50 years. Is there anybody? And those of you who’ve been watching for a few years. Thank you.”

She added: “Thanks for coming on the journey with me. I’ve had a wonderful time. I’ve loved it all.

“All the stories, and of course, working with the wonderful Platts, which, for me, is what it’s all about. And there’ll be more Platt stories, and I hope you’ll be watching. Lots of love and thanks from me. Bye.”
