The Websters’ ‘Sweet’ Christmas Secret: Why One Star Says It’s The ‘Calm Before The STORM’ That Will Shock ‘Corrie’ Fans!
Coronation Street star says ‘calm before the storm’ in sweet Websters Christmas update
The stars who play the iconic family in the ITV soap were seen out away from the cobbles
Coronation Street star Jonathan Howard has teased the ‘calm before the storm’ as he was seen enjoying a festive night out with his on-screen family.
Fans will recall that the actor joined the ITV soap earlier this year in the role of Carl Webster. The character’s arrival in Weatherfield is the first time viewers had ever seen him, with the younger half-sibling of Kevin and Debbie Webster having only been mentioned by name previously.
Carl made his arrival as he was involved in a minor collision in Frescho’s car park with Abi Wester, who he didn’t know is his sister-in-law. He quickly took a shine to the mechanic, despite her anger, and even hit him in the face. Carl asked Abi out for a drink, but she refused as she reminded him she was married and her husband was undergoing cancer treatment.
There was clearly a spark between the pair, but they went their separate ways. Later, Abi was shocked to see Carl arrive at the Bistro, with Kevin and Debbie excited to see their little brother.
As Corrie fans know, Carl and Abi since embarked on affair behind Kevin’s back, over which they were being blackmailed by Tracy Barlow.. But they are now in a relationship after Abi ended her marriage to Kevin, and he discovered the affair. Meanwhile, there was also a surprise for viewers when Carl was seen enjoying a fling with James Bailey – something Abi still doesn’t know about.
With the brothers at war, Debbie has been seen leaning on Carl when it comes to help at her hotel, the Chariot Square. But what she doesn’t realise is that her little brother has been cruelly using her dementia diagnosis to his advantage, making her think she’s forgetting more than she is so he can steal money for himself from the business accounts.
But away from the on-screen drama, its clear the actors get on like a house on fire and they were seen celebrating Christmas by taking some time out together.
Taking to Instagram, Jonathan shared pictures of himself, Sue Devaney (Debbie), Sally Carman-Duttine (Abi) and Mike Le Vell (Kevin). Alongside the smiling selfie, he wrote on Instagram: “The calm before the #corrie storm… love my Webster family. For all the drama on screen there is nothing but love off screen! Merry Corrie Christmas!”
Sally also shared the same post, with the caption of her Instagram page: “Webster’s Christmas dinner – not one plate thrown #secondfamily #christmas #bestbuds,” to which Jonathan replied: “See, sometimes we do get along!” Sue also shared: “Walking in a Webster’s Winter Wonderland. It’s Christmas! Had the best time.”
Sally’s off-screen bestie Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain, commented: “Love this!” Former Corrie star Sally Ann Matthews, who left the cobbles as Jenny Connor earlier this year, also gushed: “Gorgeous,” while actress and former soap star Sherrie Hewson added: “Excuse me I’m a Webster too!!!!!!” with her character having married Debbie, Kevin and Carl’s mum.
